He’s a little bugger, seen next to the can I scooped him up in, but I swear he’s smiling.

I found this little guy in my living room, all coiled up with his belly exposed. On first glance, I thought he was just another cat toy… until I realized that he just wasn’t furry enough….. so after a few OMG!s and WTF!s and and EEW! EEW! EEW!, I scooped him up using an empty can and a piece of junk mail from the recycling bin, and tossed him out. Then, of course, I had to go get the camera and take a few shots of him. I swear that little bugger is smiling for the camera.

    Is that a baby snake?

Glad you found him before he really did become a cat toy.

Not sure if he was a baby or an adult. I’m guessing adult. Tiny, but not something I want inside the house.

Looks like a lined snake. http://mdc.mo.gov/nathis/herpetol/snake/snake1.htm#nv31 They are tiny, and that could well have been an adult. They eat bugs and whatnot, so he’ll be very happy outside hunting. They’re one of my favorite snakes to find in the yards, since they’re teeny and fairly docile. Thanks for not just killing him.

If I had killed him, I’d have to clean up the mess, which is more icky than just booting him out. đŸ™‚

Thanks for the ID. We were having trouble pinning one down last night. His distinguishing features are a series of dots along his side. and the reddish-gray color. Couldn’t get much of a look at his back, neck, or tail.

    Yes per Geekmom

plus he probably eats slugs too (like garter snakes, one of their best attributes…)

    Such a wee thing…

(though in the last 10 days or so of Cute Overload and then Daily Squee, someone posted a photo of a baby ringneck snake that was smaller than a large blackberry …. and it was only somewhat coiled up, more like a treble clef than a ball.

      Re: Yes per Geekmom

I’m thinking about sending it into Cute Overload. I swear he’s smiling at me. Maybe he was just real happy that I got to him before the cats could torment him any more.
