Limping along, still full of turkey…

I’m currently experiencing an arthritis flare-up, but that’s not terribly unusual given the time of year and the weather. It became apparent on Wednesday evening that my left foot wasn’t happy — swollen and tender, with the big toe completely unwilling to bend. Kinda makes it hard to walk, ya know? I suspect the stumble I took in yoga earlier in the week triggered the flare. The doc Rx’d a short course of Prednisone, which seems to be working.

I failed to report last week that my Thanksgiving trip went smoothly. We all ate quite well, even if it was a carb-feast. But, sanity prevailed and for the first time we had two vegetables to offset the white potatoes, sweet potatoes, white-bread dressing, and crescent rolls.

Since it was the annual family gathering, I got to see all my nieces and nephews. My nieces and nephew by Second-Born Sis are getting so grown-up it’s scary. My newest nephew (courtesy of Third-Born Sis) is 5 months old and incredibly cute and good-natured. My nephew by Baby Sis is now about 18 months old and quite well-mannered, despite the crazy chaos of having 7 adults and 5 kids at in the house.

Note to self: I’m still a little bummed that Baby Sis is so prickly — she wants so much to be respected and appreciated, but she goes about it in such a defensive way that creates more distance. I can only hope that she’ll mellow as she gets a handle on the chaos in her life. Someday. Perhaps.

    Dressing…

Now don’t you DARE tell me you had white bread dressing! As kids we Thanksgiving-ed together, and all I ever remember having was cornbread dressing. That’s what I still make today. Are you trying to tell me your mom has gone all Yankee, making some white bread dressing?

      Re: Dressing…

đŸ˜‰ Actually, Mom IS from Ohio, after all. The white bread dressing is Grandma M’s recipe. I only watched Grandma E make dressing once, and she did it all by “feel”, measuring and mixing with her hands. Someday, I’ll find my notes from that day, if I can remember where I squirrelled them away.
