My holiday journey….

I tagged along on my sweetie’s holiday trip to visit his kids in Virginia Beach, Va., and his father in North Carolina. It was, all in all, a good week, but tiring. We stayed at guest quarters at Oceana Naval Air Station, which as clean and comfortable, and equipped with a fridge and wifi. Yay! We did a lot of running around with the kids, and since we were borrowing his daughter’s car for the weekend, we spent a fair bit of time getting it rehabbed — inspections, new tires, oil and fluids, replacement keys, wipers and such. It needed to happen.

On Christmas Eve, we drove down to North Carolina to visit my sweetie’s father, whom I had never met, even though my sweetie and I have been together for 10 years. We also spent Christmas Day there. My sweetie’s dad and his wife don’t celebrate Christmas, and she has severe allergies, so it as a little odd… but it was an interesting experience, and I think it went well.

So, on to the photos… First, the obligatory toes in the sand photo:

On the last day of my visit, my sweetie took me to the beach at Dam Neck Naval Air Station. The morning was foggy, the temperature was rising, and the beach was deserted. It was FABULOUS!

Great photos! And I like Mike’s llama. Tell him I said hi!

Jon Morgan is with me and saw this note. He asked why there are two ls in llama, and I recited him the old Ogden Nash poem:

    The one-l lama, he’s a priest,
    The two-l llama, he’s a beast,
And I’ll bet a silk pajama,
    There isn’t any three-l lllama.

Jon Morgan objected. He says yes, there is a three-l lllama. He says that in a fire station, sometimes there is a three-l llama fire. (OK, so that pun works better spoken aloud than written down, but I thought it was pretty sophisticated for a six-year old!)

    Happy New Year!
