Poking my head out the cave to say hello…

I’m back! Although it appears that I’ve been hibernating through this horrendous, cold-and-damp, OMG-will-it-ever-end winter, I have in fact been lurking on LiveJournal and actively posting on Facebook (which is the world’s biggest time-sink BTW). (Well, I’ve also been hibernating, but that’s another story for another time.)

Where have I been? Mostly, I’ve been working. I’ve been in the contract position as a technical writer since the first week of January. I’m enjoying it. It fits squarely in my odd little intersection of skills: business and technical writing combined with both visual and verbal communication skills. But I don’t have access to the outside world during work hours anymore, so my online activity has been a bit limited.

I’ve also been complaining about the weather. A lot. But the first day of Spring is only 20… make that 19 .. days away. Sure the high today is going to be in the 30s, but at least it’s not freezing, right?

I did get good news yesterday — I learned that Yard Dog Press has accepted my short story for the next "Bubbas of the Apocalypse" anthology, pending a few minor edits. That makes three short stories and two book covers with Yard Dog. (I just love using the term "my publisher" in casual conversation.)

In other writerly news, I’ve renewed my SFWA membership AND registered for the Nebula Weekend event in Florida in May. We’re gonna see a space shuttle launch, baby! At least, that’s the plan. I hope all goes as scheduled, because my Sweetie chose the Florida trip over attending his Master’s program graduation ceremony in Spokane the week prior.

That’s all I have at the moment. Later, ya’ll.

Will you be driving to Fla? If so will you be going through where the space museum and the memorial/ headstone is for Miss Baker, the first monkey into space and back? I’d love a pic of her headstone. They say that fans leave bananas in her honor on the stone. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s the same Miss Baker I have on a shirt. (I think you’ve seen it.)

The ultimate flying monkey! If you can tell me where Miss Baker’s site is, I’ll see what we can do. We’re flying to Florida, but we’ll rent a car while we’re there.

Awesome! I haven’t registered yet, but I’m planning to go to the Nebulas, too. On the other hand, I think I’m skipping the NFPW board meeting in April. Albuquerque is just too far away.
