She bought a what????

There is a 7.75 pound pork shoulder butt roast thawing in Mom’s fridge at this very moment…. I know not what to do with it. Option A, crockpot for 8 to 10 hours. Option B, oven for 3 to 4 hours. Thoughts? Opinions?  Condolences? Bueller?

    Google pork shoulder butt roast

If you can butterfly it a bit so it lays thinner, you could probably use this recipe:

    http://www.ochef.com/r49.htm

It’s for a 4.5 pound or so roast, but thinning out the lump will help. Go buy an Instant Read thermometer at WalMart if yer mom doesn’t have one.

Shirley Corriher is an excellent reference.

Apply things and potatoes go well with pork.

If you google the words, it will give you a variety of recipes. The one I picked looks best, because of the source.

I’m leaning toward crockpot and a can of cranberry sauce…. Thanks for the suggestions. If I can get it in the crock pot with some applejuice for liquid before we head out for her dr appt at 7 a.m., I’ll pick up some apples or something sweet to add to the pot while I’m out. (That’s assuming it will actually FIT in the as yet unseen crock pot. If FAIL, then I’ll default to an afternoon in the oven…)

That’s standard sausage meat. Make sausage!

Okay, that’s flippant, but it’s the best I got.

Hope your time there is not too stressful.

I like it from the oven, crock pots always seem to boil the meat. (that or its the way it turns out here)

The moral of this story is, isn’t it great to have a computer and the internets so you’re not all alone with your family….? Glad to see the pork turned out so well in your later post.
