That sound… I think I’ve heard it before….

About 1:45 am, a storm cell hit this part of town. The sound of it caught my attention and disturbed me. It was a loud, constant roar, but the tree tops seemed listless, then waved wildly, and then seemed confused. And still, the roar continued, with hail and heavy rain. I think I’ve finally figured it out. I remember a similar sound from back in South Carolina, when we rode out Hurricane Hugo. We were about 100 miles inland, and it was still bad.

    Yep, same kind of thing

KansasCity.com has photos and info. We apparently had hurricane force winds last night. We got off easy, it mostly hit the northland, along North Oak especially.

There are worse things. Suzette and George woke with the power off at their home. George went out to start the generator and found out wasps had taken up residence under the tarp…. he’s okay, sounds like he didn’t get stung or anything. He apparently settled it with a can of spray paint!

And on an up side, it cleared whatever was causing my allergy symptoms. Woke up startled because I was breathing through my nose for the first time in a week or two. then fell asleep again.

Mike left early for his usual raquetball game this morning, only to return home by 7 a.m…. no power at the Cerner gym or his office…

I was out with some friends when it hit Lawrence. Holy crap, but did it look and feel exactly like those hurricane videos we get from Florida et al each year.

The roof nearly blew off the Harbour Lights smoking area. They rushed us inside, as we were under a tornado threat.
