Calling the mothership….

I’m back! My home LAN went offline sometime Thursday, and my resident geek is still incommunicado. I’ve spent the past several days booting, rebooting, jiggling cables, and cursing my sweetie for being a complete security geek. Time Warner says my modem is working. My computer says all its bits are working. The router thinks it’s working, but obviously SOMETHING in the equation isn’t fulfilling its obligations.

So, this afternoon, I’m down in the basement doing laundry when I stop to contemplate the pretty green lights on the modem and the router… when it dawns on me to simply bypass the router. So, I plug my computer directly into the modem. Whoohoo! I’m back online, with a direct pipe to the Internet. My resident geek can fix the dang router when he gets home.

Thanks. Am I the only one who gets cabin fever when I don’t have Internet access, even if I’m not actually using it?

No you are not. In fact, I was drooling over the I-phone because of the internet and e-mail options. It is awesome.
