I didn’t attempt to drive home from work until 6:15, and made it home just before 7 p.m. via residential streets. Not bad, considering my usual commute is 15 to 25 minutes on a good day, depending on traffic.
I-435 eastbound was obviously going nowhere fast, so I went north on Metcalf to 95th, then to avoid the traffic jam near State Line, I jagged over on a side street that eventually connected with Lee Blvd, to 79th, to Main, to 75th. The streets on the Kansas side of State Line are slushy but moving along nicely. But on the Missouri side, not so much. My neighborhood streets are solid sheets of ice. I don’t expect them to be any better in the morning.
But, to my delight, the new Columbia snow boots I ordered online were waiting for me on the porch when I got home, AND they fit. Yay! (Snow + Birkenstock clogs = cold wet feet, BTW). And gas has dropped to $1.31 per gallon.
