What a crappy day for a family outing…

The weather today was sleet, more sleet, and then snow. Did that stop my sweetie from making the 45-mile drive to Fort Leavenworth? What do you think?

Yep, just as the sleet started hitting the pavement, we set out for our semi-annual trip to the commissary. (My sweetie’s teenagers are in town for the holiday, and they’ve got to eat.) Were we nuts? Probably. I suggested we just go to Walmart, but noooo….

Getting there via I-70 and K-7 was a sleety, slushy mess. But my sweetie has a Subaru, and he wanted a challenge for the drive home, so he decided to take “the backroad” ie, MO Hwy 45 through the middle of freakin’ nowhere, Missouri.

But hey. We’ve got groceries. And I’ve got a new set of isolating headphones to wear at the office to block out the loud talker in the next cube over. Sweet.

    I’m glad

you made the trip safely and got something that will help you at work. OTOH Jim did our grocery shopping today on his own. Which was a Good Thing.

We’re still planning on dim sum tomorrow at Bo Ling’s, the shitty weather should end tonight. And we have a few ‘odds and ends’ bits of shopping that will happen tomorrow.

Ah yes, the commissary where trusties bag your groceries, and all tips go into the prison recreation fund. I have not been there since — oh, 1975 or so. The fun part about going to Leavenworth is seeing all the signs that warn you not to pick up hitchhikers in case they are escaped prisoners.

I-70 out east can get to be really nasty. When my family moved out to Colorado, my sister was kind enough to spin us out in a Kansas snowstorm. It was awful.

Yeah, I’m voting with you. Walmart.

Yii. And I thought the high winds in Dallas and blanketing fog in Chicago today was bad.
